de la Riva Guard – Back Attack

There are many versions of this de la Riva back attack across the internet. However, this is the version that I personally do, so it’s little wonder that I like it the best. In this video Matt Darcy of Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu shows how to use the leg underhook and shin grip from the de la Riva guard to take the back.

Many people show this technique as a “waterfall” style sweep, but Darcy demonstrates how to do it when your opponent attempts to skitter away. Keeping control in these type of transitions is an important aspect of your ability to take the back.
